More Than a Room: The Impact of Manor’s Partnership with Ronald McDonald House Greater Western Sydney

At Manor Real Estate, we believe home is more than four walls — it is a place of comfort, connection and support, especially during life’s most challenging moments.

That belief is at the heart of our partnership with Ronald McDonald House Greater Western Sydney, where we are proud to help provide a “home away from home” for families facing the unimaginable challenge of having a seriously ill child undergoing treatment.

Through our ongoing partnership, Manor proudly sponsors a room at the Ronald McDonald House attached to Westmead Childrens Hospital, helping families stay close to their children and access the care, comfort and support they need during their medical journey.

The impact of Room 117

Between April and June 2026, our sponsored room supported five families, providing a total of 87 nights of accommodation.

These families travelled from across Australia and beyond to access specialist medical care, including:

Coffs Harbour — Orthopaedic treatment

Port Macquarie — Urology treatment

Larras Lee — ENT treatment

Cooks Gap — Orthopaedic treatment

Noumea — Oncology treatment

The longest stay during this period was 54 nights, while the greatest distance travelled by a family was 1,984km — a powerful reminder that illness does not just affect the child receiving treatment, but entire families who often have to leave behind their homes, jobs, schools and support networks.

Supporting families when they need it most

The family currently staying in Room 117 has returned to Ronald McDonald House as their 17-year-old son begins treatment again following a relapse.

After previously calling the House home for eight months during his earlier cancer journey, the family are expected to stay for approximately seven months while their son continues treatment.

For teenagers experiencing serious illness, the impact goes far beyond hospital appointments. It can mean missing school, milestones, friendships and the everyday moments that help shape who they are.

Ronald McDonald House Greater Western Sydney provides more than accommodation — it creates a space where young people can continue to learn, connect and experience moments of normality.

With his parents and siblings by his side, this young man has a place where he can spend time with the people who know him best, welcome friends, continue his education and enjoy activities that allow him to simply be a teenager.

From creative programs and learning support, to special experiences, sporting events and dedicated spaces like the Teen Retreat, families are surrounded by opportunities to create moments of joy during an incredibly difficult time.

Creating moments of joy and connection

During the quarter, families were also supported through programs designed to nurture emotional wellbeing and bring moments of happiness into their stay.

The House’s Art Gallery showcased artwork created by children and siblings through Learning Centre programs — celebrating creativity, self-expression and the importance of giving children the opportunity to simply be kids.

For families navigating childhood illness, these moments matter. Art, play and connection provide an escape from the clinical environment of hospitals and help children and siblings feel supported, included and understood.

Growing support for more families

Ronald McDonald House Greater Western Sydney continues to expand its ability to support families when they need it most.

In May, a new 10-room Family Accommodation facility opened at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Within just one week, every room was occupied, highlighting the incredible demand for this essential service.

Since opening, the accommodation has supported 64 families, with an average stay of seven nights. Almost 20% of families have stayed for more than 15 nights, showing the ongoing support required by many families during extended treatment journeys.
